Egret’s Roost

Our facility sits on a tranquil salt marsh on the outskirts of Brunswick, GA and is bordered by a tidal creek flowing from the Turtle River. Egrets, Snowy, Little and Great White, populate our marsh, along with dozens of other species of bird. The egrets are solitary by day, but roost together at night, seeking safety in their unique community. Hence, our name, Egret’s Roost.

Your visit will be a venture of five days, beginning with lunch on Monday and concluding with lunch on Friday. The offerings of your stay will be uniquely tailored to your needs and wishes. We provide consultation, life-coaching and spiritual direction throughout your stay at a pace which is casual and reflective.

Egret’s Roost is a Validated Ministry of Savannah Presbytery, Presbyterian Church (USA).

Our hosts are Ken and Vicki McKenzie. Dr. McKenzie has over 30 years of experience as a Presbyterian Minister, Counselor, and General Presbyter. He has been extensively trained through Presbyterian Disaster Assistance in Critical Incident Stress Management (ICISF), and is a member of the International Coach Federation. Additionally, he offers skills in spiritual direction, mediation, conflict resolution, and as an organizational consultant to churches and middle governing bodies.

Vicki has vast experience in youth direction at the congregational and middle governing body level as well as ministry to college students. As a pastor’s spouse for over 33 years, she brings terrific insight into the realities which face those who are married to clergy and other helping professions. Together, they form a dynamic team which will assist you in discerning your needs and beginning the path toward healing and wholeness.

Accommodations for your stay include a king-size suite with bedroom, private bath, living room, kitchenette, breakfast area and a picture window view of the marsh. Meals, with the exception of Wednesday evening, are included and prepared to your preferences.

Wednesday afternoon and evening are offered as a free time for you to enjoy the beauty of the surrounding area and try out some of our local cuisine.

By way of activities, we feature canoe, kayak, river cruises, fishing and trips into historic Brunswick, St. Simons Island, and Jekyll Island for sight-seeing, shopping and dining. Golf and tennis are also available at the nearby Heritage Oaks Country Club.
